CLARK TAKES THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND HIS FIRST US PGA TOUR WIN IN 204 EVENTS. ALLENBY HOLDS ON TO TAKE THE NUMBER 2 SPOT.
Srixon Z-Star golf ball player Tim Clark went into the final round at the TPC Sawgrass 2 shots behind fellow Srixon player Robert Allenby and 3 shots behind tournament leader Lee Westwood.
Five birdies in six holes around the turn put Clark in the driving seat, going into the last 4 holes with a 2 shot advantage. The form stayed with him to the end, making par at the renowned 17th island-green and holing an 8ft putt at 18 to finish with a best of the day final round 5 under par 67. Tim Clarks bogey free final 26 holes also delivered him the record for the biggest 36 hole comeback on the Stadium Course.
As leader in the clubhouse by 2, all he could do was sit and wait as fellow competitors Robert Allenby, Lucas Glover and Davis Love III all battled away in the toughest conditions of the 4 days. His nearest rival and fellow Srixon Z-Star golf ball player Robert Allenby, had his chances to level the scores but narrowly missed an eagle opportunity at 16 and his birdie putt at 17 slipped away, giving Clark his first USPGA title in 204 events and 12 years of trying. Tim Clark said afterwards "I did all I could out there, it was as good as I could have played".
The victory moves Tim Clark up 20 places in the world rankings to 20th, whilst 2nd for Robert Allenby jumped him to 12th position – an all time career high ranking.
Another fantastic 1 / 2 for the Srixon players and the Z-STAR golf ball – 18 wins so far on tour's worldwide in 2010.
