A CLASSIC VICTORY FOR MIGUEL-ANGEL JIMENEZ

Miguel Angel Jimenez wins the 2010 Dubai Desert Classic with the Srixon Z-Star 3 piece golf ball.

The final round of the Dubai Desert Classic saw Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez and Englishman Lee Westwood battle it out over the final 18 holes – both carded 72's to tie for the top spot at 11 under par.

With both players making par at the first and second play-off holes, the battle continued to the third extra hole where Westwood missed a six foot putt for par. Jimenez held his nerve to sink a five footer and take the title from the European Tour's number one.

Having been runner-up on two previous occasions this finally gives Jimenez the Dubai win he's been looking for – he said, "like a fine wine, with age I just get better and better".

This return to form moves Jimenez to 4th spot in the Race to Dubai rankings and up to 30th in the world – giving him eligibility for the forthcoming majors. "I hope I have another chance to be on the top of a leaderboard and have many chances to win a Major. I would still love to win a Major in my career and I'm still working, still doing my things", he said.

Miguel Angel Jimenez plays the Srixon Z-Star 3 piece golf ball and has now captured nine of his 16 wins since turning 40.

SRIXON CELEBRATE TRIPLE VICTORIES ON TOUR

Staff players Jim Furyk, Robert Allenby and Chan Yih-Shin secure PGA, European and Asian Tour wins, taking the total to 35 wins for Srixon balls in 2009.

Srixon scored a triple victory this weekend with wins for PGA Tour professional Jim Furyk in the USA, European Tour professional Robert Allenby in South Africa and Chan Yih-Shin who secured the Kings Cup.

Furyk’s victory came courtesy of a final round five-under-par 67, including a sensational birdie-birdie finish, at the Chevron World Challenge, in Thousand Oaks, California.

It was the first victory in more than two years for the World Number Six who is hoping to maintain his winning momentum going into next year. “Hopefully this will be a stepping stone,” said Furyk, who admitted that his previous winning drought had “bothered him”.

Meanwhile out in South Africa an all-Srixon tussle between Australian Robert Allenby and Swede Henrik Stenson was taking place for the title of Nedbank Challenge champion on the European Tour.

The Srixon Tour Staff duo had tied on 11-under-par in regulation play, forcing a sudden-death play-off at Sun City. Allenby eventually beat Stenson at the third extra hole, securing his first victory in four years.
“I’m glad that’s over,” commented a relieved Allenby who is something of a play-off specialist having won 11 out of 12 attempts. “I did think we were going to be out here all night at one stage!” he added.

Furyk’s win at the Chevron World Challenge earned him $1.35 million and moved him to No. 6 in the world, while Allenby’s victory earned him $1.2 million and moved him up to No. 26 in the World Golf Rankings.

ROLLINS WIN AT RENO-TAHOE

Playing the last day with Ryan Palmer (Texas neighbour and family friend), John Rollins moves to world number 61 with year to date earnings of over $2 million after winning the Legends Reno Tahoe Open with a 17 under par total including a tremendous second round 62.

Rollins said "It was a hang-on kind of day, I had to battle a lot of emotions." Rollins sank an 18-foot birdie putt on the second hole, but he double bogeyed the par-5 fourth after he had to take a penalty stroke for an unplayable lie in the right rough off the tee.

He chipped within 3 feet from 44 yards out on the 616-yard, par-5 fifth and made the birdie putt to make the turn at 36.

On the 584-yard 11th, he drove 351 yards down the right side of the fairway, hit his approach 212 yards to just short of the green and chipped in from nearly 40 feet to get to 19 under.

"Once that happened you kind of feel like, `Well now, we're OK. Let's settle down and let's finish this thing off," Rollins said.

Rollins won the 2002 Canadian Open and 2006 B.C. Open and was the runner-up earlier this year at the Buick Invitational and Honda Classic. The $540,000 winner's check pushed his season earnings beyond the $2 million mark for a tour career total of more than $12 million.

Rollins plays a Srixon Z-Star golf ball.

BEARWOOD LAKES ALL STAR SHOOTOUT

Monday, May 18th at Bearwood Lakes Golf Club, Berkshire started with rain filled skies and windy conditions, not perfect conditions for playing host to some of the worlds top tour professionals and some of your largest customers you might think. But, as the final preparations were being made to the course and the SKY Sports camera’s arrived with Di Stewart at around 3pm, the skies broke and the sun came out, to leave the lucky customers and competition winners with the realization that they were just about to tee it up on the back nine of the pristine Bearwood Lakes Golf Club with either Henrik Stenson (current world top 4 ranked player and recent winner of The Players Championship), David Howell (Ryder Cup Player), Miguel Angel Jimenez (current BMW PGA Champion) or Soren Kjeldsen (recent winner on the European Tour) in front of a growing crowd of invited guests, customers, competition winners and the golf course designer himself Guy Hockley.

The main event was focused around each Tour Pro hosting a Fourball in a Texas Scramble format 5 Hole play-off. Strict terms of the event were that each member of the team had to be responsible for one tee shot each. This was always going to be tricky as each team had to play off the championship tees with the wind in the faces for 4 of the 5 holes, which jointly measured over 1706 YDS which was made up of 2 Par 4’s, 2 Par 3’s and a Par 5.

The crowds, staff and specially invited guests were treated to an exhibition style event. With each player being photographed and interviewed about either their driving, iron play, wedge play or how they came to choose the particular Srixon ball that they play with.

They were then given complete access to roam amongst the players whilst they took part in the Shoot Out event in a completely relaxed mood, with each player happy to sign autographs and have their pictures taken on the way round.

The crowds following Jimenez, could not believe their luck when he threw down a towel on the 13th tee at the sight one of his amateur playing partners splitting the fairway perfectly from their tee shot. It only became clear what was going on when he dropped to his knees and struck his tee shot with a gentle fade down the left hand side of the fairway, to applause from the admiring followers.

Leslie Hepsworth, CEO Srixon Sports Europe, who was present, said "This is the perfect way to treat our top Customers and show them what great Ambassadors our Tour Players are for our two brands"

The Shoot Out ended up being a closely fought out contest with Jimenez, Kjeldsen and Stenson all finishing on 1 under par with team Howell claiming the honors on a score of 2 under par. Each amateur team member took home a framed photo signed by their tour player team captain, along with other signed memorabilia including caps and the score card from the day. Team Howell also picked up a Cleveland 3 wood each.

Andy Martin, Foremost Golf, said “It was the most fun I have had on a golf course in as long a time as I care to remember.
It was certainly a well organised day and for me to get a knock with winner from the European Tour is something that I will remember for a long time.”

When asked what the tour players thought of the day, Iain Steele, (Cleveland Golf / Srixon European Tour Operations Manager) was delighted to report that “The Players all thought it was one of the best corporate days that they have been a part of.”

"With the experience here, I know even better that I hope I can pull it off when it matters." he said.

“I have thoroughly tested Srixon balls and I am convinced that they are better than what I have been playing. This also virtually assures that I will be playing Srixon balls, Cleveland Golf clubs and Never Compromise putters for the rest of my PGA Tour career and I am extremely happy about that, said Singh, who has endorsed Cleveland Golf since 2000 and Never Compromise since 2004.”

A Srixon spokesman said that the Company was delighted that Singh had switched to playing Srixon balls and that 2009 is expected to be another big year for the popular Fijian, who has won more events on the PGA Tour than any other Overseas born player.

Boo Weekley, who was nicknamed after cartoon hero Yogi Bear’s sidekick, “Boo Boo” Bear, is a two-time winner on The PGA Tour and also played a major role in the U.S. Ryder Cup victory last fall.
7 WINS IN 3 WEEKS!

32 Year old South African Staff Player TIM CLARK came from nowhere with a last round 67 in the 4th and final round of the Australian Open at Royal Sydney, to force a play off with Australian Mathew Goggin on 9 under par, that Clark then won at the 1st extra hole.

Clark said. "I didn't even consider there would be a playoff until about 30 minutes after I finished," Clark continues "I was watching the TV, having a pie and chips, believe it or not, and thought I better get down there and warm up. I feel bad for David the way he finished."

Fellow Staff Player ROBERT ALLENBY was third just one shot back on -8.
This was Clark's first win of the season, after a long period of injury last winter and will considerably boost his world ranking position.
STENSON STORMS SUN CITY!

This weekend 32-year-old Srixon tour player Henrik Stenson destroyed the Gary Player Course at Sun City, to post a 21 under par score to win the Nedbank Golf Challenge, the second biggest winning margin in the history of the tournament. This included five birdies with final-hole bogey the only blip on his scorecard.

Some commentators described Stenson’s performance as defying belief given the back tees of the Gary Player course are amongst the longest championship courses in the World at a staggering 7700 yards!

Stenson now ranked 7th in the world, commented "I'm really happy with this victory - it's a fantastic way to finish the season," We couldn’t agree more as it brings Srixon’s total player wins in 2008 to a historic 39, with more to play. A fantastic way to finish the season indeed!

You could say, Srixon’s star is in the ascendancy...
